If I had a PC with insufficient SATA 6G ports, I would jump on that card in a heartbeat. While better than other inexpensive cards, it is still not the equal of the Intel internal interfaces. It is a x8 card with 2 mini-SAS ports that can be broken out to 8 SATA 6G interfaces. The sole exception that I have seen testing on that stands out from the pack is the Highpoint 2720SGL PCIe card ($150). I suspect there is not an available external solution that betters about 350-400 MBs per device or 1200-1300 MBs for 4 drive RAID other than a high end PCIe RAID card using LSI Logic controllers. If you are talking about the internal SATA ports on a PC motherboard, it is pretty well known that almost no add-on solution can match the performance of the integrated Intel SATA 6G ports. I just saw a test of the Thunderbay Mini and it too only got about 350-400 MBs for a single SSD. I suspect this is primarily a function of the OEM SATA controller chips used (Marvel, I suspect). All of these enclosures seem to be limited to about 400 Mbs per SATA port.

I don't think the Multidock 2 is any slower than the rest of the usual suspects such as the OWC Thunderbay.
